# 11.7 Rules Verbs

| **Verb**         | **Meaning**                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Have / Has | Continuously grants or sets the stated characteristic while the effect applies. It also applies to objects that later meet the effect’s filter. |
| Gain / Gains | Adds the stated characteristic or Ability at resolution for the stated duration. If no duration is stated, the change lasts while the object remains the same object, subject to [Section 11.5](/comprehensive-rules-1.0.0/abilities-and-game-state/11-abilities-trigger-queue-and-continuous-effects/11-5-resolution.md). |
| Get / Gets | Applies the stated numeric modifier for the stated duration. |
| Become / Becomes | Sets the stated characteristic to the specified value in Layer 2 for the stated duration. |
| Are / Is | States or continuously sets a current condition or characteristic while the effect applies. |
| Then | Performs the following instruction after the preceding instruction finishes. It does not create a response window or change priority. |
| If | Checks the stated condition at the timing specified by the Ability. If the condition is true, perform the following instruction; otherwise, skip that conditional instruction. |
| Unless | Creates an exception condition. Perform the following instruction except when the stated condition is true. |
| Instead | Replaces the stated event or action with the following instruction. The replaced event or action does not occur unless another effect separately causes it. |
| Cannot | Prohibits the stated event, action, or choice. A Prohibition has priority over Permission and Requirement. A card Ability cannot bypass a Prohibition merely by using “ignore,” “override,” or “despite”; an exception exists only when the Prohibition itself states one. |
| Ignore | A word that may appear in rules text, but that does not by itself bypass a Prohibition in Monsnatch. It can create an exception only when the rule or Prohibition being identified expressly authorizes that exception. It does not remove unrelated legality requirements. |
| Choose | Requires a player to select an option, object, or value at the timing specified by the Ability. A Choice is not automatically a Target. |
| Each | Applies the instruction separately to every object or player in the stated set. Resolve each application using the information available when that application occurs. |
| Up to | Allows a player to choose any number from zero through the stated maximum, unless the Ability also states a minimum. |
| At least | Requires a quantity no lower than the stated minimum. If the instruction requires a choice, the chosen quantity must satisfy that minimum. |
| For each | Repeats the following instruction, or calculates the stated amount, once for every object or player that qualifies at the specified timing. |

| **Example.** Ability: “Choose 2 enemy Momon. Each gets -1 Power until end of turn. Then, Move one of those Momon to an adjacent empty Space.” Choose both targets and the destination when the Ability enters the Trigger Queue. On resolution, recheck each target. If only one target remains legal, affect that target and perform the independent Move instruction as far as possible. If every target is illegal, the entire Ability resolves with no effect under [Section 11.4.5](/comprehensive-rules-1.0.0/abilities-and-game-state/11-abilities-trigger-queue-and-continuous-effects/11-4-targets-and-choices.md). |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://momon-wonder.gitbook.io/comprehensive-rules-1.0.0/abilities-and-game-state/11-abilities-trigger-queue-and-continuous-effects/11-7-rules-verbs.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
